A comprehensive guide to anal douching: pro tips and types of douches (part 1)

A comprehensive guide to anal douching: pro tips and types of douches (part 1)

While anal sex and anal play can be incredibly pleasurable, it’s important to note that, unless you’re into scat (which involves sexual arousal and pleasure from faeces), douching is a key part of the process.

You might be wondering, “What even is anal douching?” In simple terms, it’s the process of cleaning out your anus in preparation for anal sex or play. While douching may seem a bit daunting, think of it as giving your insides a shower—after all, “douche” just means “shower” in French.

In this guide, we’ll explore how the colon is structured, the different types of douches you can use, and a few pro tips to make the process easier while keeping your bits safe.

The colon

The colon is shaped like a box with a tail at the base:

  • Sphincter: the muscles of your anus
  • Rectum: the “tail,” about six inches long
  • Sigmoid: slightly s-shaped, forming the “base” of the box
  • Descending colon: the vertical “side” of the box
  • Transverse colon: the horizontal “top” of the box
  • Ascending colon: the other vertical “side” of the box

In Part 2, we’ll delve into why the structure of the colon is important.

Types of douche

There are several different types of douches you can use:

The shower douche

The shower hose douche is an easy option for a thorough clean. Simply remove your shower hose and replace it with the shower douche.

Pro tip: Be careful with the shower douche—the inside of your anus is more temperature-sensitive and delicate than skin, so ensure the water is lukewarm and at a low pressure.

The enema bulb

The enema bulb is a small plastic or rubber bulb, roughly the size of a fist, with a short nozzle. It’s a great option for travel, as it’s small and discreet.

The Fleet enema

Fleet enemas are often used in hospitals before rectal examinations or surgeries. They contain saline, which can help soften stool, making it easier to expel and clean.

The enema bag

An enema bag has a hose and nozzle attached, similar to the shower hose douche, and uses gravity to push water into your anus.

The water bottle

While not a traditional douche, if you find yourself without one, you can improvise with a simple plastic water bottle. Lean your bum against the top of the bottle (with lube), gently push it in, and squeeze lightly.

Pro tips

  • Some people choose to fast for 24 hours before heavy anal play, making the cleaning process easier and reducing the chances of accidents.
  • Maintaining a healthy, fibre-rich diet and staying hydrated will simplify the douching process.
  • Consider douching a few times without an anal play appointment scheduled. This practice helps you understand your body and the cleaning process, so when anal is on the agenda, you’ll feel confident and relaxed knowing you’re squeaky clean.
  • Avoid douching with soaps, harsh cleansers, chemicals, or oils—stick to water (or saline) only.
  • Limit douching to no more than three times a week.
  • Remember, your anus is delicate; lube is your friend.

We welcome you to the world of anal douching, but we’re not quite finished here. In Part 2, we’ll explore the two types of douching: the quick clean and the deep clean. There’s much more to discover in the wonderful realm of anal cleanliness.
