A comprehensive guide to anal douching: quick clean vs deep clean (part 2)

A comprehensive guide to anal douching: quick clean vs deep clean (part 2)

In our comprehensive guide to anal douching Part 1, we explored the structure of the colon, different types of douches, and some pro tips to stay safe while making douching easier. Now, we’ll dive deeper into exactly how to douche, including the two key methods for cleaning: the quick clean and the deep clean.

Step 1: Empty your bowels

It may sound obvious, but get as much waste out as you can (without straining, as this can lead to haemorrhoids).

Step 2: Apply lubrication

Use plenty of lube.

Apply a generous amount of lube in and around your anus, and be sure to coat the douche nozzle (especially for the enema bulb, Fleet enema, and water bottle). The skin of the anus is delicate, and insufficient lubrication can result in tears, leading to painful anal fissures that may require surgery to treat.

Step 3: Insert the nozzle

Gently insert the nozzle of your chosen douche. Use your sphincter muscles to relax and guide the nozzle in. If you feel any pain or discomfort, remove the nozzle and add more lube.

Step 4: The fast clean or deep clean?

The type of anal play or sex you're planning is crucial here, as it determines whether you’ll do a fast clean or a deep clean. The fast clean removes waste from the rectum up to the sigmoid colon, while the deep clean reaches the junction of the ascending and transverse colon.

The fast clean

The fast clean takes about 15 to 30 minutes—perfect if you’re planning a quickie within a couple of hours. This method is easiest with the enema bulb, Fleet enema, or water bottle, so that’s where we’ll focus.

Fill the douche with cold or lukewarm water (never hot). Insert the douche and squeeze gently until it’s empty. Remove the douche, wait five seconds, and then expel the water into the toilet or shower.

Repeat this process until the water runs clear and has no odour, which usually takes at least five times.

Beware: If you can't get the water to run clean, you likely breached the sigmoid colon, meaning you’ll need to do a deep clean or postpone your anal play.

The deep clean

The deep clean takes between 30 minutes to two hours and is essential for extended sessions or more intense play.

We’ll focus on the shower hose douche and enema bag, which are much more suitable for a deep clean. While the enema bulb, Fleet enema, and water bottle can work for a deep clean, you’ll need to use around five to six enema bulb douches before expelling the water to effectively reach the upper areas of your colon.

First, remove the shower drain cover (thank us later).

Gently turn on the water, ensuring the pressure is low and the temperature is lukewarm. Insert the lubed nozzle into your anus and relax.

After about 30 seconds, you’ll start to feel full and may experience cramps. This sensation can be uncomfortable, but it indicates that your body is trying to expel the water.

Once you feel full, try to hold the water for 30 seconds. You can help the process along by massaging your abdomen or moving your body.

Expel the water and repeat until the water runs clear and has no smell.

Step 5: Clean up

Once your insides are clean, thoroughly wash yourself—not just your anus, but also your cheeks, thighs, lower back, perineum, penis, and testicles/vulva.

If you’re expecting some anal tongue play, perform the finger test: run your finger around your rectum, cheeks, and perineum, then sniff. If it doesn’t smell fresh, wash again.

Finally, always remember to take your time, know your limits, and consult a doctor if you have any questions or experience negative side effects. They’ve seen it all, so don’t hesitate to reach out.
